Ghedex begins: Don't miss Oman's Education fair

Muscat: Ghedex 2012, Oman's biggest higher education fair, was inaugurated by HE Dr. Abdullah Bin Mohammed Al Sarmi, Undersecretary for higher education at the Ministry of Higher Education, on 23 April. Muscat: The name of Dr. Salma M. Al Kindy, a professor with the Department of Chemistry of the College of Science at Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) , has become a history for a while. When she has been elected as a fellow of Third World Academy of Science (TWAS) , the social media networks in Oman has brimmed with showers of praise towards Salma. Farah Nada wins a poetry award

FARAH NADA Sharjah: American University of Sharjah (AUS) student Farah Nada received a Taaleem Poetry Award on March 10 during the Emirates Airline Festival of Literature in Dubai. Nada, a junior student with a double major in journalism and English literature, submitted her poem "A Short Story," which won second place in the ages 18 and above English poems category. "I am very proud of myself, and I am very happy to be recognized the first time I entered into any competition," said Nada. "This has motivated me and from now on I will try to do more. I will take creative writing classes and participate more in writing both short stories and poems." Twenty-nine students received Taaleem Poetry Awards in this year's competition, which was based on the theme "Identity." The competition was divided into four categories: under age 11, ages 12-14, ages 15-17 and ages 18 and above in both English and Arabic. The awards were handed to the winners

AUS students wins in Belgium

Sharjah:The American University of Sharjah (AUS) sports teams, the Leopards, placed third in men’s soccer and volleyball and in women’s volleyball, at the 1st International Championship for Universities and Colleges (ICUC) held in Belgium recently.  Over a thousand student-athletes participated in the ICUC, a four-day international sports and cultural event in Leuven. The competition included men’s soccer, volleyball, basketball and swimming and women’s volleyball, basketball and swimming.  Participating collages included AUS, Catholic University of Leuven, American University of Paris, American College of Greece, American University of Beirut, Lebanese American University Beirut, Lebanese American University Byblos, and University of Balamand.  Dr. Moza Al Shehhi, Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs, had a pre-departure meeting with the delegation, where she encouraged the athletes to play well and make the most of the opportunity by interacting with the other teams.

Dubai: The 7th Career Fair of the University of Wollongong in Dubai (UOWD) attracted 33 companies, including the Big 4 accounting firms – Deloitte, KPMG, Pricewaterhouse Coopers and Ernst & Young.  There was a large turnout of students queuing up to meet the recruiters, which included some top multinationals as well as leading local companies.
